What is the WSRA Hotline? |
The WSRA Hotline is a listserv, or an electronic mailing list, which allows subscribers to send an e-mail message to other subscribers on the list by posting messages through WSRA's website. WSRA intends to use the Hotline as an alert line that disseminates dated information and issues to WSRA members who subscribe to the service. WSRA will use the Hotline to:
- notify people about legislative issues and other concerns,
- inform people about conferences, deadlines, and when the website is updated,
- request proposals and articles, and
- solicit convention volunteers and committee members.
Subscribers may use the Hotline to:
- announce literacy meetings, conferences and workshops,
- request educational information,
- seek volunteers for special projects and committee work,
- inform subscribers about job openings,
- provide information about grants, etc.
Important note : The views expressed on the WSRA Hotline are not necessarily those of the WSRA organization.
Who Can Subscribe to the WSRA Hotline? |
The WSRA Hotline is intended for WSRA members only. If you would like to subscribe to the Hotline, you must first join WSRA. Once your application for membership has been processed (approximately one week) you will be subscribed to the Hotline .
How Do I Subscribe To The WSRA Hotline? |
When you become a member with WSRA, you are automatically subscribed to the Hotline as long as you have provided us with a valid email address. If you wish to receive Hotline messages and have not yet given us your email address, please contact our Administrative Assistant.
If you have unsubscribed from Hotline and wish to subscribe again, you will need to register with our online system. While registering, you are given the option to receive Hotline postings in your Inbox. If you are already registered with our online system, simply go to the Settings page once you have logged into your account and change your Hotline Preference.
If you are not currently a member of WSRA, please see our Membership Page for information on joining our organization.
How Do I Unsubscribe to the WSRA Hotline? |
You can unsubscribe from Hotline in one of two ways:
- In any Hotline message you have received, there should be a link at the bottom that you can either click on or copy and paste into your web browsing window. On that page, you must confirm that you wish to unsubscribe from Hotline by entering your password and clicking the "Unsubscribe Me" button. You will then receive a confirmation message stating that you have unsubscribed from Hotline and will no longer receive messages.
- If you are registered with WSRA's online system, simply log into your online account and go to "Settings", found at the top right of your screen. In the Settings page, you will be able to change your preference for Hotline messages.
How Do I Initiate a Message on the Hotline? |
To send a message to all subscribers of the Hotline, you must first be registered with WSRA's online system and then be logged in. If you are not logged into the WSRA online system, you will not be able to make posts on Hotline. Once logged in, you can post to the Hotline by visiting the bottom of the Hotline main page.
Remember, you can only post a message to Hotline if you are registered with WSRA's online system and are logged in.
How Do I Reply to a Message on the Hotline? |
If you currently receive Hotline messages via email, simply copy and paste the sender's email address into your reply, which is found at the bottom of the Hotline message. If you are not subscribed to receive Hotline messages and you still wish to reply to one that you have seen on the WSRA website, simply log into your online account, go to the Hotline webpage and click on the email address under "Reply-To Email" in the left hand column of the post. This link will open up your default email client on your computer and fill in the "To:" and "Subject:" lines for that particular posting.
I'm not receiving Hotline messages! What can I do? |
If you are not receiving Hotline messages to you INBOX, first please make sure that your online account is set up to send you Hotline posts. You can verify this by visiting the Settings page after logging into your online account. If you do not have an online account and do not wish to register with our online system, please contact the Administrative Assistant to verify your Hotline settings.
If you are set up to receive Hotline messages and still are not receiving them, the email server that collects your messages before alerting you is most likely treating the new Hotline messages as SPAM. To change this, you will either need to change your SPAM settings (AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, etc) or contact the provider of your email and let them know of a few changes they can expect with the new Hotline system (business email, school email, etc).
CHANGES TO HOTLINE MESSAGES:
The sender of a Hotline message will always be "automated@wsra.org".
The subject line of a Hotline message will always contain the word "WSRA".
Hotline Archive |
Messages older than 60 days are automatically archived within the Hotline system so they can be referred to in the future. You can access the archived messages of Hotline by clicking here. If you do not find a post you are looking for, then it most likely has been deleted by administration.
Guidelines |
- The WSRA Hotline will not be used to sell products or discuss issues. If you would like to discuss an issue, pose a question, or share resources, use the WSRA Discussion Board (currently inactive- contact the Web Editor for details).
- While the Hotline is not intended as a discussion forum, you may reply to a Hotline message by either posting your own message on the Hotline in reference to a previous post, or by replying to the individual who initiated the message through their email address supplied at the bottom of the email you received. Please use discretion in posting a reply to all subscribers and do so only when you feel your message would be of interest to the majority of readers.
- When initiating a message to the Hotline, give your message a meaningful subject line that tells what your message is about. Some people belong to several listservs and this allows them to read those messages they are most interested in.
- Restrict your messages to literacy issues. People sending inappropriate messages through the Hotline will be removed from the list and their posts will be deleted.
- DO NOT POST IN ALL CAPS. Posting in all caps makes your message harder to read and is considered shouting.
