Reading Specialists Position Paper

Reading Specialists is gathering information to be compiled into a comprehensive resource handbook for Wisconsin reading specialists. There have been many requests for such a document to provide a practical, efficient reference for reading specialists to use in communication with colleagues, preservice educators, administrators, school boards, community members, and legislators. Work on this project will continue.

The committee is collaborating with Legislative, Research, and Advocacy committees to design a follow-up study on the role of reading specialist in Wisconsin. The study will include a review of literature, a state-wide survey, and a broad analysis of what performance in reading is in relation to reading specialist assignments, roles and responsibilities.
