Denise McQuillen’s presentation is on how to design an author study and incorporate author studies into the curriculum. The presentation is geared to kindergarten to upper elementary.
OR
Lori Cash’s presentation is about tolerance using biographies. The topic of “Bullying” has addressed many times however, students do not always connect the issues that are taught in school with their own lives. This presentation is geared for middle to high school students.

Comprehension In A Readers Workshop
Dr. Frank Serafini
Dr. Frank Serafini recently spoke at the WSRA Summer Leadership Institute. He is the author of Around the Reading Workshop in 180 Days and A Month to Month Guide to Effective Instruction as well as children’s books. His topic for the evening will be the reading workshop framework and comprehension instruction. The reading workshop is an organizational framework that provides an environment for reading, discussion and response to reading.

Trina Haase’s presentation is geared to middle and high school language arts teachers and will provide an overview of what book clubs are, the advantages of using a book club format, assessment issues when using a book club, and how book clubs can be effectively used in the classroom.

Lori Cash’s presentation is on improving the quality of writing through the use of simulations to help motivate students.
