This institute examines successful approaches to Response to Intervention that are consistent with
Wisconsin DPI’s broad view of literacy and current theory and research.
Presenters offer the practical details of RtI from classroom instruction through interventions, assessments,
coaching and administration. Attendees will learn about the
possibilities for the collaborative, comprehensive RtI process.

Is a professor in the Reading Department at the University at Albany-SUNY. He has worked as an elementary classroom teacher and as a reading teacher and has published eight books and numerous articles. His most recent books are Critical Literacy/Critical Teaching: Tools for Preparing Responsive Teachers (2005, Teachers College Press) and Choice Words: How Language Affects Children’s Learning (2004, Stenhouse). His current work investigates literacy assessment, the consequences of teaching practices for the kind of literacy children acquire, how teachers and students build productive learning communities, and the process of building critical inquiry into literacy teacher education.

Brian Reindl is a literacy coach at the Washington School for Comprehensive Literacy in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Washington School for Comprehensive Literacy is a prototype for Dr. Linda Dorn’s Comprehensive Intervention Model fro the University of Arkansas, Little Rock. Brian has worked with Linda Dorn to implement this approach in his school.
