WSRA Institute with Gravity Goldberg
Description of the full day presentation: What if you could have an owner’s manual on reading ownership? What if there really were a framework for building students’ agency and independence? When it comes to teaching reading, Gravity Goldberg declares there is a structure, one that works with your current curriculum, to help readers take charge. The way forward lies in admiring, studying, and really getting to know your students. Gravity will discuss how to use your assessments and observations to effectively uncover what students can do, provide feedback, model so readers know what to do, and coach them as they take on new learning. Teachers of all readers will walk away with ideas for inspiring curiosity in student learning, developing a growth mindset, and keeping their students highly engaged so they take charge of their reading.
Gravity Goldberg is the author of several books including Teach Like Yourself, Mindsets and Moves, What Do I Teach Readers Tomorrow, and Conferring with Readers. She spends most of her days leading workshops, coaching teachers, and admiring the learners all around her. Gravity leads a consulting group in the NY/NJ area and supports districts and schools in taking on a balanced approach to literacy learning.
