WSRA Research Committee's Pat Bricker Memorial Research Scholarship
Purpose:
The Pat Bricker Memorial Research Scholarships are given annually by the Wisconsin State Reading Association for classroom action research related to literacy.
Award:
The Pat Bricker Memorial Research Scholarship recipient will be awarded with a complimentary registration for the WSRA conference for completed research if the study is shared during the WSRA conference poster session.
The goal for this scholarship award is for WSRA members to learn from your work. Recipients of the Pat Bricker Memorial Research Scholarship must be willing to share their findings at a poster session at the WSRA conference.
Who may Apply:
- Any current member of WSRA is eligible to apply.
- If the study involves more than one person, at least one person must be a WSRA member.
How to Apply:
- All applications must be received by November 1, 2024 for the 2025 WSRA conference.
- All applications must include the criteria outlined in the "Study Criteria" offered below.
- All applications must include: the application form, the research summary, and a list of references.
- All applications must not exceed four pages in total (the application form is not included in the page total; only the research summary and references apply).

Study Criteria
- A clear research question
- Did the research summary include a question that was explored in the classroom or school?
- Is the question important and useful to teachers?
- Compelling rationale
- Does the research summary include a clear rationale explaining why the study was needed?
- Is the rationale relevant?
- A thorough review of research
- Does the research summary include a review of major, current, relevant research works that support the rationale and provide a theoretical framework for the study?
- Are references included?
- Appropriate method
- Participants: Does the research summary address consent for all participants, including consent of parents for minor students Is relevant information about participants provided? (number of students, range of ages, grade levels, performance levels, etc.)
- Data collection: What data did you use to explore your question? How did you observe and document the changes in your classroom?
- Data analysis: What were the results of your study?
- Overall quality: Is the writing clear, concise, professional, and well-organized?
