The Report of the National Reading Panel Twenty Years Later: The Enduring Legacy on Research, Policy, and Practice

In 2000, the National Reading Panel (NRP) released its final report on teaching children to read. Deconstructing reading into five pillars - phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The findings of the NRP were greeted with a mixture of applause, criticism, and controversy. Nevertheless, since its release two decades ago, the NRP's conclusions have shaped the educational landscape and situated a wide body of literacy research, policy, and practice. The 2020 symposium seeks to explore the legacy of the NRP, discuss its enduring influence, and broaden awareness of relevant research findings since 2000.

Keynote speakers: Gina Cervetti, Mariana Pacheco, Gwendolyn Thompson McMillon
