MLC Fall Meeting November 4

Title:  Capture the Reader Mentor the Writer - presented by Mary Lou Harris-Manske

Description:  Reading and writing are much more than just subjects in school. Reading and writing are a way of being in the world. We want to support our students on their journey of developing “readerly ” and “ writerly ” lives. To spark that interest we must have books that capture their hearts and minds. Books that students want to read written by authors they love. Lisa Cleveland suggests looking at mentor texts through the lens of a mentor author, the person behind the writing. It is that particular author that kept us reading and that particular author whose craft we want to imitate in our own writing. This presentation will feature books that capture the reader and mentor the writer.
